Based on the recommendation of a childhood friend, Janet and I spent last evening watching the movie, The War Room. We really enjoyed similar movies, such as Fireproof, but this one was even better, if that is possible. The premise of the film is that prayer is powerful and if we, as Christians, want to impact our world for good, then we must step up our prayer life and not remain lukewarm about our involvement with God.
The Bible is quite clear that God wants us to be white hot in our faith. It is important that we stand for something – and not be politically correct or try to walk down the middle of the street without taking sides. There is no doubt that spiritual warfare is all around us – Satan and his fallen angels are in a battle with God and the other angels still loyal to the Father. And we should realize that Satan is waiting for us around every corner. The stronger we are in our faith, the more we become a target for the Satan. If we aren’t that committed in our faith, we don’t present a threat to the underworld.
However, when we are on fire for the Lord, we become more dangerous and potentially damage Satan’s plans to grow his legions of evil. Any of us can be targeted for trouble. Even Peter, one of the closest disciples to Jesus, was challenged by Satan, as was Jesus Himself when He was in the wilderness.
But remaining steadfast in our commitment to Christ is the best defense against Satan. Not just praying for ourselves, but praying for our spouses, children, families and friends is also part of our responsibility as Christians. We can’t be haphazard about our commitment to prayer. The apostle Paul tells us in his first letter to the Thessalonians that we are to avoid any appearance of evil and from 1 Thess. 5:16-18, we are told, “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
My encouragement tonight is that Jesus and His Father are looking for us to pray and invoke their assistance for our needs on a daily basis. My prayer is that you will take every opportunity to pray for those you love and who are important to you. And remember, prayers are to be white hot – not lukewarm – to be the most effective… By the way, if you haven’t seen The War Room, it’s worth watching… Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace.
