We just got home from a holiday dinner that we celebrated with people from work. In fact, this is something of a hectic week. Since our trip to Dallas was cancelled this past week-end, our lives have been a whirlwind. Tonight, the dinner – tomorrow, a birthday party – Saturday, another holiday party and Sunday, the weekly family dinner. Of course, through it all, there is year end work and getting ready for Christmas.
All this goes to say that it’s been a long day and there just isn’t time to write a long post this evening. In fact, I just would like a little sleep and I am reminded of the verse in Proverbs that just happens to perfectly fit the way that I feel tonight. So we’ll get right to it – the verse of the evening from Proverbs 24:33, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—”
My encouragement this evening is that God desires us to serve Him and recognizes that in our human weakness, we need appropriate rest. My prayer is that this Christmas season you will show moderation in all things and that you will will balance work, pleasure and dedication to the Lord as we celebrate the birth of our Savior – the quiet moment when the earthly life of Jesus began. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
