Last week, our middle grandson was sick with whatever it is that is going around… You know the stuff… headache, nausea, cough, sore throat and some sort of stomach virus. In fact, I am aware of a number of folks who have been dealing with this stuff the past month or so… However, Janet and I have been very fortunate that we have escaped these illnesses… until several days ago.
Thankfully, Janet has kept her health while I, on the other hand, have been sicker than a dog… I haven’t slept in two nights and I have most of the symptoms that our grandson, Carter, had. And our youngest grandson, Drew, also has been ill with much of the same stuff… So I hope that you will extend me some grace and realize that tonight’s post will be shorter than most. In fact, I thought about not writing at all, but I just couldn’t bring myself to skip my post altogether.
On Tuesday, Janet is having several spinal injections for a problem with her L4 vertebrae and I want to be sure that I am well enough to take her and discuss the situation with the interventionalist who will be, hopefully, giving her some relief. If all goes well, it will be the end of an issue that she has been dealing with since last fall.
Thankfully, all my business stuff is up to date but I hate it when I get sick. I am one of those people who doesn’t get under the weather very often but when I do, I am usually down for at least several days. I am thankful that I have a number of friends who offer up prayers for us on a regular basis and I also pray for others who have medical issues with their families.
Our verse for tonight is one of the Bible verses that have to do with illness. James, the half brother of Jesus, tells us, in his New Testament book, in James 5:14-15, “Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up…”
I’m betting on that promise of God this week. And the Lord has been faithful in the past when these sorts of issues come up. My encouragement this evening is that when we are ill, our first thought should be to turn to our Father in heaven and ask for healing. Furthermore, we should contact those friends of ours who are prayer warriors and make them aware of our situation. My prayer is that God will continue to answer our prayers for healing and that when we are ill, our recovery time will be minimal and we can get back to the business of doing the Lord’s work here on earth. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
